Taste profile
Blended whisky distilled and aged in Scotland, then matured for a year in the Tropics with new American oak casks, then matured in a high ester rum cask.
Tasting notes: A gourmet whisky, fruity, woody and spicy like an old rum on the nose, chocolatey and spicy on the palate with a long, dry finish.
Color: amber.
Nose: Rich and gourmand, opening with vanilla and woody notes like an old rum, cocoa and cinnamon, flambéed banana and coconut, candied orange and peach.
Mouth: Deep and suave, it picks up the pastry notes of the nose on a fruitier, buttery profile, with hints of pineapple, pecan and tobacco, enhanced by spicy notes (pepper, nutmeg) in the manner of old rums.
Finish: Very long and dry, with hints of vanilla and caramel, ginger and coffee, and a fresh, slightly mentholated and very fruity character (citrus, nuts and tropical fruits).
Empty glass: Orange zest, dried banana, licorice, pecan.
Evolution: Aikan Intense Single Barrel is a woodier, richer version with its second tropical aging exclusively in new American oak barrels of several char levels, from a single 200-liter barrel of “grand Arôme” rum from the Galion distillery in Martinique, and bottled at 45% vol. Around 300 bottles are drawn from each barrel.
Promise: The ideal whisky for lovers of aged rums and, of course, woody, gourmet whiskies, especially American whiskies such as bourbon or Tennessee whiskey, with a dry, vanilla, chocolate and tropical fruity finish.
